MSc Environmental, Occupational and Pharmaceutical Risk Assessment and Management

OCCUPATIONAL EPIDEMIOLOGY OF DISEASES – PHARMACO-EPIDEMIOLOGY

2nd semester

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be familiar with the main categories of occupational diseases with an emphasis on the prevention of worker exposure and the early diagnosis of people who are at higher risk.

In the part of pharmaco-epidemiology, the knowledge of the use of epidemiological methodology is combined in the investigation of the effects of the use of medicinal substances and preparations on humans in terms of the therapeutic effects and any adverse / side effects that are observed. Data from observations resulting from the use of drugs in various population groups are used in combination with pre-existing information from their circulation in order to study the relationship between risk and benefit in order to choose the optimal treatment.

Course content

Study and assessment of the actions (beneficial or adverse) of widely administered drugs and pharmaceutical treatments in populations in the treatment of diseases using epidemiological methods, drug use surveillance programs - study of side effects.

Evaluation of drug effectiveness - study of long-term use of drugs and modification of their use - investigation of the correlation of drug use with the occurrence of epidemics.
