MEDICAL RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

1st semester

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, students will know the basic characteristics of medical research methodology and the basic principles of drafting a research protocol.

They will have sufficient knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of different epidemiological plans, investigation and control of causal associations between exposure to risk factors and disease occurrence.

They will be able to capture the elements of the study sample selection, recording and data entry methodology.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to interpret the results of medical research studies resulting from various research designs as well as to write scientific texts to disseminate findings and inform the scientific community, based on the writing guidelines for each different type of study.
 

 

Course content

  • Presentation and analysis of the methodology and stages followed during research design in health sciences.
  • Analysis of the main types of epidemiological investigations in general and clinical epidemiology.
  • Ways of ranking general and clinical epidemiology surveys.
  • Key features of surveys, advantages and disadvantages.
  • Epidemiological survey data-management and analysis.
  • Formulation of a causal hypothesis.
  • Population and sampling.
  • Data recording, processing and analysis.
  • Interpretation of results, critical attribution of findings.
  • Research with questionnaire (identification of research subject, definition of objectives and assumptions, sample selection, questionnaire design, coding, analysis of results, preparation of research report)
