Georgia Giannakourou is Professor of Planning and Environmental Law and Policies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Department of Political Science and Public Administration). Her research focus on issues of spatial planning and environmental regulation at the national and European level. She is the editorial director of the scientific journal "Environment and Law" and the editor of the book series "Studies in Spatial and Urban Planning Law" of the Nomiki Bibliothiki publications. She is Attorney-at-law in the Athens Bar and has acted as legal adviser to many public and private organizations and companies. She has also served as Deputy Ombudsman at the Independent Authority “The Greek Ombudsman”, responsible for the Quality-of-Life Department (2003-2005), and as member of the National Council for Spatial Planning and Sustainable Development (2009-2014) and of the Scientific Council at the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government (2012-2015). She is a member of the Special Legislative Committee for the codification of spatial and urban planning legislation in Greece.
