Dr Elena Riza is a trained Epidemiologist and Public Health Specialist holding a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Dundee (Scotland-UK), a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM- University of London-UK) and a Master’s degree in Global Health & Disaster Medicine from the Medical School NKUA.
Moreover, she holds a Diploma in Forced Migration from the Refugee Studies Centre- (University of Oxford), a certificate in Health in Humanitarian Crises from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (University of London-UK), a certificate in Bioethics from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation in cooperation with Johns Hopkins University- USA and a certificate in the Principles of Ethics and Personal leadership from NAEMT- USA (National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians).
She teaches in the Undergraduate medical degree modules “Epidemiology & Research Methodology”, “Preventive Medicine and Public Health”. She is the coordinator and lead instructor of the elective module “Occupational Medicine” which focuses on the assessment of the interrelation between exposure to potential risk factors in the workplace on human health.
She coordinates and teaches in the postgraduate programme: “Occupational, environmental and pharmaceutical risk assessment and management” of the Medical School, NKUA. She is a core management team member of the postgraduate programme “Global Health and Disaster Medicine” of the Medical School NKUA teaching Epidemiology, Research Methodology, Public Health, Environmental Health, and Health promotion.
She supervises a number of research projects and dissertations, and she participates in several public health interventions, humanitarian activities addressing mainly vulnerable population groups focusing on female cancer prevention, health literacy, chronic disease prevention and management.
She has a large number of publications in peer-reviewed journals, she is the author of chapters in textbooks, and she participates in many scientific meeting and conferences both in Greece and abroad. She is α fluent speaker in 5 languages, member of the Greek Association of Médecins sans Frontières and she is a reviewer in many scientific journals.
