CHRISTOS KONTOGIORGIS

Associate Professor,
Department of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace

Dr. Christos Kontogiorgis is an Associate Professor at the Laboratory of Hygiene and Environmental Protection, Department of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace. He has been a member of the Laboratory since 2014. He graduated from the School of Pharmacy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2000), where he also completed his PhD (2004).

As part of his postdoctoral research, he has worked at several international institutions, including the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA (2006); the Genetic Therapies Centre, Department of Chemistry, Imperial College London, UK (2010); the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, King’s College London, UK (2011); the Dipartimento di Farmacia – Scienze del Farmaco, Università degli Studi di Bari “Aldo Moro”, Italy (2008); the Department of Pharmacy, University of Parma, Italy (2008); and the Department of Chemistry and Drug Technologies, “Sapienza” University of Rome, Italy (2009).

He teaches undergraduate students at the Department of Medicine and supervises postdoctoral researchers, PhD candidates, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate students. He has recently co-organized a Postgraduate Programme (MSc) titled “Primary Health Care: Social Medicine and Pharmaceutical Care” at the Department of Medicine, DUTH.

He founded the first research group in Pharmacoepidemiology in Greece and is the coordinator of the National Symposium of Pharmacoepidemiology. He is also the national representative of Greece in ENCePP (European Network of Centres for Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance). He has participated in numerous research projects, both European and national, either as a member of the coordinating team or as a researcher.

He is the author of over 90 publications indexed in PubMed and Scopus, and has contributed to more than 200 studies presented at national and international conferences.
